So God has been working in me more and more. Changing my heart in small ways, but I can see it and feel it in big ways. Most recently, He's changed my attitude toward Scott and him working so much. I know in this economy, Scott keeping his construction management job is a huge, huge blessing. His company has had 2 rounds of major layoffs in the past 6 months and he survived both. In the past three weeks, his company reassigned him to another job and two more jobs have opened up that were pending and unsure of whether or not building would take place. Well, now my dearest has more work than he can handle (talk about job security). Scott has been working longer hours ( I used to think 7am-6pm was long, but its longer now) and had to work Saturday to catch up from being sick 2 weeks ago. Previously, I would have been angry and given Scott the silent treatment or some sort of lecture that he should be home so his kids will know him...etc. But really, I'd be angry cause I thought he was doing it to piss me off of something. But praise God! I have had a huge change of heart. Not only because I know he could be one of the many laid off and not working, but because God has given me so much grace in my long days with the kids. My afternoons, when normally I get anxious and stir crazy, have gone smoothly. I can't explain it and give it justice, but I know God is doing this for me. And that God has changed my heart and not just given me the perspective. I know this for one reason: I can't even remember WHY I'd be mad at Scott for working late. I'm so MAD at myself for ever feeling that way, but I do remember feeling so justified for being mad when he was late, and now I can't even explain why I would be mad. (Yeah, I know I'm not making too much sense.)
A friend of mine said that I've made Scott less of a god to me by relying on God himself to provide help and support for me as a mom. This is so true. I totally did rely on Scott to fill my needs as a mommy, to relieve me from the kids or to have someone to complain to or commiserate with. But I've been praying a lot in my looong afternoons just for survival right now. By doing this, I've released Scott from his duty to come rescue me from my, what's the word, uh, afternoon crazy time (nothing funny or smart came to mind). So in this change I'm able now to stop being angry and start supporting my dear husband.
Now having written this long ramble, I realized that i have probably already written about this already. Well, consider this the expanded version.
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5

Snippings
I'm posting very random things today.
On Wednesday, I had to call poison control for the first time ever. B found one of those silica packets that they put in shoe boxes and other random non-food stuffs, and was enjoying sucking on it, till I put an end to it, and was pissed that I took it away. I then ensued in an OMG chant while I frantically tried to find a phone to call, and then the phone number (where were those Mr. Yuk stickers!?!) and then the phone wasn't working for some reason, and then searched again for my cell phone. When I finally got them on the line, Q was screaming at me to come wipe him, and B was still mad that I had taken the toxic silica packet away from him. Thankfully, he's fine. Turns out they only write "DO NOT EAT" on those things because they are a choking hazard and are not toxic.
God has answered some prayers of our for Scott's employment. His company recently secured some jobs which should keep him employed till the summer, so that's a good thing. It comes with a price though. He's expected to work harder and longer to keep up with things. I feel bad for him, cause I know he'd much rather be here. And for the first time, I'm not harboring resentment that he's away from home so much. This comes from the perspective God has given me that he could have NO job, and that would be much worse. And if Scott did lose his job, he'd probably have to pick up at least 2 to make up for the salary that he's making now.
Scott and I went on a fabulous Valentine's Day date last weekend. We went on a "high school" date, as Scott put it. We went to Sonic...and it was so great, we weren't pressured to dress up, and had a casual relaxed romantic dinner to parking lights, and thoroughly enjoyed our junk food ( we tend to boycott real restaurants on this day because we always get terrible service and get pissed). Then we went bowling, where I was given a free lesson on how to bowl. And we found out that I have a stronger arm then Scott (the alley had radar speed recording on it, and I hurled that ball). Scott says you're not supposed to muscle it down the lane and just let the moment of your arm swinging and the ball be the power-blah blah blah. He is much better at it then I am, so I should just listen to him, but it just feels so good to launch a 10lb ball down the lane and watch the one pin that I hit fly! We then topped the evening off with sundaes at Friendly's. Friendly's was one of our first dates, the one where I ordered a banana split and spilled the whole thing on the table and myself. So it was good times, and cheap too, which is always nice.
That same night, I found out, or rather confirmed my suspicions that my mom (don't tell her!) is a terrible babysitter. I came home and there were Doritos crumbs all over the floor, and I was like, "What the heck?" She's like, "oh those are from me, I must have dropped them." But both kids were fine and that's all I ask for, but it wasn't til the next morning that I truly confirmed that I wouldn't use her again if she didn't love my kids and was free.
In the bathtub was my OrangeGLO miracle floor cleaner sponge thingy...strange I thought. I haven't mopped the floors since before Christmas (I have vacuumed, and swiffered, just not mopped OK?). When Q got up, I showed it to him and asked if Grammy had bathed him with it, and he said yes. What?? I have like a million wash clothes in the very closet where she found the mop thingy. Why not use one of them? That's just weird. Or just not use a wash cloth, why not one of the poofs that are hanging from the shower caddy?
Then while making breakfast, I kicked over a bowl of water left out for her 5lb rat dog. And discovered that she left out an entire container of macaroni and cheese instead of putting in back in the fridge. On top of all that she was 45min late getting to my house.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I just think its hilarious. She is my mom, and she loves my kids and they love her, and they're fine when I leave her with them. But there's just some strange things she does. Even now, I'm sitting her shaking my head at the mop thing.
Once again, I'm at a loss as to how to sum up and neatly wrap up this post, so I'll leave you with what we call a 'deceptive cadance' which means, its over, but doesn't sound like it should be...at least thats what I think that means...

Observation Notes
I've been watching my 10 month old lately, and he's been amazing me. I worked with children with Autism for 7 years before having kids. And the stuff that neuro-typical developing kids do on their own truly amazes me. For instance, B can raise his arms and do "SO BIG" when I ask him "How big is B?" Its super cute. He can also clap on demand and point to daddy when I ask him to do it. I'm so amazed that this is typical for a 10month old when I had to teach this to older children in a complex manner. I'm so thankful to God for my sweet babykins! He also loves to hide things in the Dell computer vent. He had 5 things stashed in there, including 2 socks that I've been searching for. He can also say "fish" in his own little way, and identify balls in books. Which astonishes me.
B has also taken to love eating. Really. He'll try anything, and get SO excited when he's eating. I prayed that he would enjoy eating, and God has really answered this prayer. He has this excited hand motion where he raises his little hands up and sorta rotates his hands at the wrists over and over. Its funny. When he's done eating and bored, he starts 'vocalizing' in his high chair, louder and louder until he's released to 'clean' the floor. He army scoots still, and I now know that even if my floors look clean, the true litmus test is how clean his shirt is at the end of the day.
He also loves to play fetch with himself, finding a ball, throwing it and going to get it again and again.
It sounds cliche, but I can't believe he's 10 months already. Where does the time go?
I can clearly remember finding out I was pregnant with him after a year of trying and realizing how awesome God was (the timing was so perfect). And then his birth and how I couldn't believe he was mine, cause he didn't look anything like Q, other than the fact that he was just as big as Q was.
God is so good and so faithful, I'm truly blessed to have my family. Thank you GOD! I don't deserve your goodness and faithfulness!

One of those Nights
So I had one of those days. It didn't start bad, in fact, most of the day was good. I was super productive. I finally organized the 'office' by putting away all the paid bills that were piled up on it and in it. And I'm so pleased to be actually seeing the wood desk top, I even polished it, and it looks so pretty. I also went out to play with Q today during B's morning nap. It was so beautiful out. We went out with light jackets on, but ended up taking them off, it was so warm. We even returned library books and made a trip to Sonic for smoothies (only cause Q was sick, right!). I got me a cherry limeade and it was awesome!! AND to top it off, both boys napped for 2 hours this pm. I had dinner planned and almost made before Scott had a change of plans and didn't make it home for dinner. But that didn't bother me either.
I made Q mac-n-cheese for dinner, (only cause he's sick), and sat the boys down to eat. It was only then that the day began to go south (and it was 5:30--so I guess I can't say my DAY was bad). I decided to make cupcakes, only because Q was sick (and I wanted to eat raw cake batter). So I made cupcakes while shovelling food at B and Q. Both ate really well, and as their veggie/fruit, I opened a can of pears (they're my stand by for fresh fruit if its my off week to shop). Both boys enjoyed the pears, but there were some left, so I left the can w/ all the juice and maybe two pears in the can on the counter. While they were eating, I remembered that Q need to 'sign' his 16 valentine's day cards for school tomorrow. So, I broke out the box of CARS valentine's with cute little tattoos to go with them (my first mistake was buying this type of cards). Q did a good job signing his name, although he has no concept that the letters in his name go in a particular order, but he caught on. So then I had to put the darn tattoos on the card, by sliding them into little slits cut into the card. Argh! I was contemplating not putting the smaller-than-a-postage-stamp tattoos on there, till I read that each card stated "A Tattoo Especially for YOU" on it. So I stood there attaching these stupid tattoos, while B smiled and did his little monkey arm thing telling me he wanted MORE to eat. I'd stop, give him a few bites of food (if you give him a whole bunch of food, he stuffs it all into his mouth and then gags), and continue on with my task, all the while, Q is asking me again and again if he can have a cupcake (which were still in the oven). I was ready to scream cause noise and constant question asking drive me over the edge when I'm trying to get something done. Oh and I started my and Scott's dinner of chicken chili before the cupcakes went in the oven. Well, it was time to add something to the chili and I took out something, and for the life of me don't know how, but I dropped the lid to the pot on the floor and dented the lid. But no big mess.
I finally got all the cards done and packed away in Q's back pack and it was time for baths. Ordinarily, I would have skipped bath time because it was just me putting the boys to bed. But Q had peed all over himself and the bathroom during dinner (cause I didn't supervise him), and well, what kind of mother would I be if I didn't hose him down. I did make him wash his hands before returning to dinner, but I figured he needed a bath anyway since I couldn't remember the last time I gave him a bath. So I got B in bed, then gave Q a bath and into bed. All would have been good, if he had stayed in bed. He was up 4 times and didn't fall asleep till 10pm.
After I got Q in bed, I went down to clean up the kitchen, it was a wreck. There was the kids dinner wreckage and the adults dinner wreckage and of course the cup cake wreckage to clean up. As I was tackling all this, I knocked a pot I just cleaned over and it in turn knocked over the can of pears/pear juice over, onto my freshly scrubbed kitchen floor. AHH. Scott tells me I have fetal alcohol syndrome cause I"m so clumsy. Which I'd believe if my mom wasn't such a God fearing baptist, and we all know "baptists don't drink or dance..." its in the Baptist decree.
I mopped up that spill and continued on, when I remembered I had to pack lunches for everyone for the next day. I just wanted to sit down! It was a little glimpse of how my life is going to be in a few years when I have Q in school full time...doing "homework" and fixing lunches. I don't know how you mommies do it. It was an exhausting night. I did finally get to sit down and eat w/ my dearest at 9:30pm and watch LOST. While it was exhausting, I've sorta found a joy in being busy, it gives me a feeling of accomplishment once in a while when I get stuff done, struggle and get exhausted and live to tell about it.

Is it Spring Yet?
So both my boys are sick again. Well, I should say all three are sick again. I had maybe 3 days of wellness in my house where no one was sick. I never did end up getting the full out cold, just a sore throat. Q has now got croup and Scott has taken him to the doctor for me this afternoon, so I'm sure they'll say he's fine...but he sounds awful. This will be trip #5 since Jan. 4th to the doctor for one or the other child (including one well visit and one eye exam). B has his standard runny green nose and eyes (I made the appointment for the eye doctor to get the ball rolling in case he needs the surgery to open up his tear ducts).
I'm soooo ready for spring. Although it seems that germs are still abound until August and I can get one good month of everyone free of whatever.
I scrubbed my house down today and swabbed every service with a disinfectant. My home now smells lemony fresh. I even soaked everyone's toothbrushes in peroxide. What else can I do. I'm also so batty from staying in the house.
On the brighter side of things, B is eating sooo much better. He eats or tries to eat almost everything I give him, which is a huge answer to prayer. Even fruit goes down with ease now. Now if Q would just join in on the fun. He will taste most things, for stickers...but still doesn't eat a ton.
Also, my sister and her family return home March 3rd for a 6month trek along the eastern coast. We'll get to see them for Easter and at least two other visits. One for an entire family vacation in the OuterBanks, NC. I'm so excited for this vacation, and I can't wait for spring to get here to enjoy the weather and how pretty things get. I wish it was April already!!!

Bait and Switch
Be forewarned, I'm going to rant.
I hate Comcast. Well actually, I have a love hate relationship with them.
We're trying to save some money in our household budget, and I found out that I'm paying way too much for home phone service and wireless service while I'm thinking about it.
So, I call comcast to see if it'd be worth it to switch to their infamous phone, Internet, TV plan. I can. It'll be great. I'll save $70 a month if I switch my phone service to Comcast. So I go ahead and authorize the change. The dude on the phone was all excited at how much money I was going to save, and "there's no extra fees, no installation charges like Verizon has," he told me. Whatever. Another dude shows up at my door yesterday to install whatever doojabby is needed for me to get my phone thru Comcast, but since I don't have a phone jack near a cable jack, someone has to come back on Monday to route a phone line into my basement...whatever. No biggie.
Well, the guy leaves me the paperwork and on it says there IS a freakin' installation fee of $131. What!?! Then I notice that my beloved Noggin channel and National Geographic Channel are gone...so I call. Turns out, to get the awesome money saving deal, I had to down grade my cable service. That makes sense, and in all honesty, I don't need Noggin, Q watches too much T.V. anyway. But, I wasn't told that's what was happening. And not to mention the flat out lie I was told that there would be no installation fee. The boogers. I'm totally about to call the "escalation" department (that's what they call it). And if they mean that I'm about to take things a step further and scream at some other peon, then I'll call it that too. I'm about to escalate!!!!!!!
I just don't like dishonesty, and I know I'm going to lose this fight, but someone is going to hear about it! Darn it.
And, believe me, if the FIOS was ready to go in my neighborhood, I'd drop all my comcast b.s. to go with that. And the direct tv thing is MORE expensive...so I'm at a loss. Blah.

Confessions of a Wackadoo
1. I don't like to eat the crusts of sandwich bread. Yes, I'm 3 years old.
2. In a former life, I was a band and choir geek.
3. I was that kid in school that you wanted to punch out, cause I was always telling you what was right and wrong. (and I had my own fan club in Jr. High named, WHK --"we hate Katie" club.)
4. I have punched a boy, and a girl. After punching the boy, his cousin terrorised me with threatening phone calls. After punching the girl, I was thrown out of a basketball game on a technical foul. (They both deserved it though).
5. I watch waay to much food network. (and its one of my most visited websites).
6. I look forward to nap time a little too much. (Is that bad?)
